What does Hello Kitty mean to you?
Hello Kitty means my childhood and then again in my 20's when we rediscovered our love for all things Sanrio, or did it ever leave? My best friend at the time was making these super cute little leather chokers with Sanrio and Sailer Moon stickers and then laminating them, they were so cute and disco and I sold them in my shop in the Fortitude Valley - SCRABBLE.
Also fun fact - did you know the shop Mr Kitly is named after a cat myself and Julian Patterson found on a beach north of Brisbane - we named him after some of the boot leg Hello Kitty things our friend was bringing into the shop from Hong Kong- they were all slightly spelled differently and our favourite was "HELTO KITLY" and that was that!
Another fun fact - Hello Kitty was born in 1974 - same year as me!!
Let us know what Hello Kitty means to you or any of the other characters!

Yuko Shimizu -

In 1974 Shimizu made the original design for Hello Kitty, whose fictional birthdate is November 1, the same as Shimizu's.[1][2] Hello Kitty is Sanrio's most successful and best known character. Shimizu based her name on Alice's black 'Kitty' from Through the Looking-Glass. Hello Kitty was designed to be a kawaii (cute) symbol to be used on merchandise.[1][2][3] In 1975, the design made her debut in Japan with her image on a coin purse.[1][2]
